What is Self Help?
Dear Icebergers,
I started to write my first self-help book well over twenty years ago while recovering from eating distress. It was a great help to me that I practiced everything I was writing about, it really helped my recovery. When I recovered I did not wanted people to experience the darkness of the mind for as long as I did, and I started to research ways how to speed up recovery and experience real life and freedom. In my 18 years of working and researching eating distress I found out that self help is one of the very important elements of recovery and Iceberg was born. Iceberg is a self-help website.
What is self-help?
According to the definition : Self –help is an act of helping or improving yourself without relying on anyone else. It is the practice of bettering oneself without relying on the assistance of others..
Iceberg enhances this definition so that we aim to reinforce recovery by posting our self-help learnings to Iceberg. These learnings are the things we discover on our good days or that help us get through the bad days. The Iceberg idea of self-help also avoids relying on other Icebergers to fix the bad days for you.
Self-help on Iceberg is about posting your positive learnings and discoveries to Iceberg to reaffirm your positive thoughts your own mind; this way you can always revisit them since you can get at Iceberg wherever there is a computer and a connection :) Self-help on Iceberg is also about using the tips, tools and positive realisations that others have kindly contributed here to help get you through the bad days - use these to motivate your recovery.
I hope this will help you to benefit more from Iceberg. I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who is contributing to our website. I hope that we will continue to learn even more from one another from all over the world.
And one day we can say that we all contributed to having an ED- Free generation. Let’s be Positive!
