shocking news
Hi there
I've been busy so haven't posted but have been reading all your great posts, they keep me going! Anyway I felt compelled to mention a shocking news story I heard on the radio today. A 36y old woman in the States gave birth to a baby just 6 hours after completing a Marathon, as in running 26k. It apparently took her 6 hours to complete, she went home , felt a few twinges then went into labour!! I was horrified at the thought of this and immediately said to my self, that's condition driven if ever I heard it. And what was worse was that she got the all clear to do this by her Dr's , has the world gone mad?? That poor baby must have had a bumpy 9 months in that womb to say the least. have they lost all sense.
On the other hand, I have to be honest and say that a part of me said, gosh I wonder if I could have done that, I must be a wimp at this condition stuff, she must be so strong, so fit, so determined. My version is a bit pathetic in comparison. But then I went on to think, thanks be to God I never did such a thing, although I did plenty. That poor womans' body is sooo going to pay a price later. It's insane to do that. Growing a baby is such a precious thing and the body needs to be treated gently while doing that job. That baby could not have been getting all the essential elements as the mother was busy depleting. Shocking, utterly shocking.
Overall though, I found it quite sad, that this condition stuff is so rampant, that medical professionals are not tuned in. It makes progress as a nation seem more than a bit challenging.
I guess I can only change myself and maybe influence those around me.

Hi Kiz,
Wow that is shocking. We really do some crazy things in condition and it's only in recovery, when our awareness is heightened that we realise just how distorted our actions were. I feel sorry for this woman, for her baby but also for society in general. I have no doubt that this story was to told in a celebratory way. Look how amazing this woman is......... Em no, what kind of a sick mind would put a baby through that. I've often imagined what it'd be like to be pregnant, and I think there'd be a warm glow of love and a protectiveness. I can imagine doing yoga, talking nice strolls. But to run a marathon ? Marathon are dangerous at the best of times. Modern day humans aren't built for marathons. Maybe elite athletes but for normal Joe soaps it's a massive strain on our bodies.
You say you feel a bit envious, that she must be strong. Not at all Kiz. You're the strong one, the one in recovery who can see just how distorted her behaviour is. We all push our bodies past their limit in condition. It doesn't make us strong, it makes us sick.
This is a really shocking story and it just highlights how much condition screws with our normal womanly instincts.
Great awareness Kiz :)
Love always,
Fio xx
Yes, really – ‘shocking news’.
I think, sometimes we need to hear stories like this one and to stop and think – ‘What is happening around us’.
I feel many people are so obsessed with all this ‘healthy’ living we forgot the meaning of the word ‘well-being’.
ED behaviour is so normalised, diagnostic often quite limited, many people in denial and who will suffer the most? – The next generation…
Stories like that could be great motivation for everyone to recover, to work on Freedom and body appreciation. Even coming to Iceberg and sharing is a step to recovery, give yourself all of you credit for any small steps on your journey, you will not be “shocking new” You can change the desperation to inspiration.
Stories like this one are showing us how everyone’s recovery is very very important:)
