Dear Icebergers,

We have some exciting news!! Next Month Sunday 12th February I will be running a yogalates class in Marino Therapy Centre. It will run from 11am-12/12.15. The room can hold 7 people so if you are interested please sign up with Marino office and advance payment for the class is required. The class will be €15 and you will get small group attention.

I cannot emphasize enough the benefits of yoga and pilates. They have both taken the world by storm due to there benefits on the body and i really feel are so important in healing the body frojm eating distress once practiced in the right way. I have been teaching yoga for over 4 years and i absolutely am convinced that my oesteopenia has been almost reveresed due to the practice of yoga in particular.

Please see below for what i feel are the major benefits of both:

Nervous system balances, reduces anxiety and helps as a result when overwhelmed (highly sensitive) as it creats union between the body and the mind

Connects student with their breath, so this means that we can slow down as the Respiratory rate decreases

Blood Pressure decreases (of special significance for hyporeactors)

Cardiovascular efficiency increases- important for fitness and the heart

Gastrointestinal function normalizes - yoga has really helped me through twisting in terms of my digestion system

Musculoskeletal flexibility and joint range of motion increase - no matter how tight you feel initially you will really feel yourslef get more and more flexible

Posture improves- with eating distress the spine also comes under a lot of stress, however, yoga and pilates teach us how to hold ourselves

Strength and resiliency increase

Energy level increases

Metabolism balance due to postures that work on the thyroid

I Have really noticed my sleep improve

Immunity increases

When i feel stressed or in bad form and i take out my mat i feel totally different after, more connected and less stressed. In terms of spirituality yoga helps us slip out of the m ind and in to the body and reminds us of our body, our feelings and helping with positive thghts and self acceptance. It is not about comparison or shaping ourselves into a pretzel like figure.. it is about being in touch with ourselves, our needs, emotions and our body.

I hope to see some of u at a class, we will start with this one and then hope to arrange more regular classes.

That sounds really good. Would def be interested in doing a class.. What really stood out to me was that it helps improve sleep! :)

On a lonely morning with my partner away, trying to baby step through looking after myself (without him holding my hand), reading about this and knowing that I'm signed up has given me the "happy thought" that I needed. So thanks.

It sounds great but challenges all my spooky spots - I've avoided anything to do with physical and body for a long time. Yogalates is exactly the kind of thing I need but would be terrified of doing. Knowing that you are running it makes it different though, I can trust that it will be ok.

Question: guessing jeans not appropriate...tracksuit and runners...?

And in proper Jaqueline style, I think I'm going to cry. But for feeling happy relief rather than confused darkness.

Ohhhh so looking forward to teaching you all! Georgia..u will enjoy it!! Best to wear tracksuit bottoms and we dont wear runners just socks..Caitriona and Cherry it is best to call the office in Marino and speak to Gerry to see if there are any spaces left. Payment is in advance with Marino and if all spaces are gone we can set another class up. I hope you can get a space and looking forward to seeing u on the mat!!
