I'm a lyrics girl - I've millions of freedom songs
I was listening to this tonight - I like the lyrics
Well I won't back down, no I won't back down
You can stand me up at the gates of hell
But I won't back down
[Verse 2]
Gonna stand my ground, won't be turned around
And I'll keep this world from draggin' me down
Gonna stand my ground and I won't back down
[Chorus]
Hey baby, there ain't no easy way out
Hey I will stand my ground and I won't back down
[Verse 3]
Well I know what's right, I got just one life
In a world that keeps on pushin' me around
But I stand my ground and I won't back down
[Chorus]
Hey baby, there ain't no easy way out
Hey I will stand my ground and I won't back down
No I won't back down.

I listened to this some days over and over again - the lyrics are slightly wrong here but you can guess what they're supposed to be - just the odd word is wrong
I agree that we can use poetic licence and reinterpret. This is a song called
'Get up,stand up' by the late great Bob Marley and the Wailers.
I like the empowering lyrics - in posting please interpret as a song of solidarity and encouragement. Life is your right
Get up,stand up, stand up for your rights,
get up stand up , don't give up the fight
get up,stand up life is your right
don't give up the right
Ian
Thank you Ciara, Lee and Ian. I agree that songs are uplifting, and I find myself inspired by many of the books I read also. I just finished the third of five books of Maya Angelou's autobiography, and all three are full of words of strength and down-to-earth, practical wisdom.
Here is a song that has always stuck a chord with me, since first hearing it one Tuesday, as I listened to the radio on my phone, on my way from college to Marino for a group session. It is what we can say to ourselves on the days we are finding it challenging.
From "Shine", by Take That (and possibly not entirely accurate - apologies!):
Stop being so hard on yourself,
It's not good for your health,
I know that you can change,
So clear your head and come round.
***You only have to open your eyes***,
You might get a big surprise,
And it may feel good,
And you might want to smile, smile, smile,
Oh, don't you let your demons pull you down,
'Cause you can have it all.
I think I've mixed two verses there, but it's so encouraging isn't it?
Lots of evidence that we too can use our creativity for the common good!

I am what I am
I am my own special creation
So come take a look
Give me the hook
Or the ovation
It's my world
That I want to have a little pride
My world
And it's not a place I have to hide in
Life's not worth a dam
Till I can say
I am what I am
I am what I am
I don't want praise I don't want pity
I bang my own drum
Some think it's noise I think it's pretty
And so what if I love each sparkle and each bangle
Why not see things from a different angle
Your life is a shame
Till you can shout out I am what I am
I am what I am
And what I am needs no excuses
I deal my own deck
Sometimes the aces sometimes the deuces
It's one life and there's no return and no deposit
One life so it's time to open up your closet
Life's not worth a dam till you can shout out
I am what I am
I am what I am
I am what I am
And what I am needs no excuses
I deal my own deck sometimes the aces sometimes the deuces
It's one life and there's no return and no deposit
One life so it's time to open up your closet
Life's not worth a dam till you can shout out
I am what I am
I am I am I am good
I am I am I am strong
I am I am I am worthy
I am I am I belong
I am
I am
Who whoooo etc.
I am
I am I am I am useful
I am I am I am true
I am I am somebody
I am as good as you
Yes I am

Thanks ladies x
There is no magic cure, no making it all go away forever. There are only small steps upward; an easier day, an unexpected laugh, a mirror that doesn't matter anymore.
