Thanks for sharing this !! You're setting a great example by focusing on the positive things:-) I'm afraid I can't really add anything to the list right now, I'm so negative again.... But reading yours helps:)
There ARE so many positive things happening in recovery...I don't know why it's so hard to let go of negative thoughts and appreciate the positive things...?
Realising that things started to change scares me and the ed-voice is just everywhere trying to block my efforts by denying me success.
I guess the changes that are happening are for good, there's just something inside me that can't accept them yet! I hope that this will change eventually...

Great idea..... So so so many.
Rose..... I remember my first session my therapist gave me a sheet to bring home.... I had to list the benefits of recovery and the benefits of the condition..... I'm not gonna lie and it scared the sh*t out of me..... I had plenty of benefits on my condition list and also listed all the things that I thought I'd lose with recovery. So sad and so scary. Also in early stages when I'd resent recovery and be so immersed in the negative I'd really really have to grapple at straws to find the positives but god was the effort worth it. If you search iceberg for 'how I turned my day around' or 'shift' I think you'll find good posts about how to get yourself out of that negative mind frame...
Ok the positives..... Wow.... Looking forward to this....
Being able to get out of bed effortlessly
Repairing family relationships with family
Mood stability without having to tirelessly direct my thinking
Restoration of digestive system
Falling truly madly deeply in love with crafts
Being able to walk around a foreign city and soak in and absorb all of its wonder and beauty without a life sucking gremlin on my back...
Concentration - for conversations, listening, movies and life....
Recognising and appreciating beauty.
Taking an interest in self care - physically - like Lush products, going for a swim, my hair serum, buying nice underwear.
Discovering udos oil.
Not having that jibber jabber chattering away in my head comparing my eating habits to whatever tom dick or harry happens to be in my line of vision...
My friendship with my best friend.
Laughing from the bottom of heart...
Owning my opinions.
Allowing myself to sit inside on a Saturday afternoon and watch an entire boxset.
Being moved to tears by art and life as depicted in a film or a book.
Discovering truly truly remarkable, generous people.
Finding me.
And most of all growing so many green thoughts that they overwhelm the red ones.
Keep fighting everyone
Hi Monzi :)
Thank you so much for this post. It really is essential for us to focus on the positives in order to make it stronger then condition and enable us to conquer condition, even when we really don't feel like it sometimes but have to just go and get the pen and paper and write write write.
Positives I have received from my Recovery, It is hard to fully express in words just how much they all mean to me and just how liberating the feeling of Freedom is. Remember - Freedom does not discriminate.
-Having strong boundaries to protect myself
-Being able to cherish my sensitivity and learn how to use it in a constructive way
-To truly be present in a moment whether on my own or with people
-No longer convinced I have the power to mind read - which really gives you so much more space in your head.
-Feeling in general - forming a true body mind connection
- Having a choice
-Be excited about the future and not fearing it
I could go on for days with this one.

Dear Monzi, Thank you for your contribution and your inspiring attitude towards recovery. I really love what you are suggesting and recommendating for us to do , writing out all the positives from recovery and reminding yourself what you get from all the positives. It is a very powerful technique to write down all the positives from recovery because it makes you appreciate fully what keeps you focused on your journey towards recovery. Keep at it and keep us updated on how you are getting on.
I also find the following techniques very helpful with recovery ( They are from one of my post but I do not know if you read it ?) :
Defusing Techniques Defusing involves seeing thoughts and feelings for what they are (streams of words, passing sensations), not what they say they are (dangers or facts).
• STOP, STEP BACK, OBSERVE (the thoughts and feelings, what’s happening to/for the other person).
• Notice what’s happening – your thoughts, physical sensations, emotions, images, memories. Notice the way you’re interpreting what they mean, and how that’s affecting you.
• Notice the unhelpful thoughts. What am I reacting to? Perhaps say the thoughts very slowly, or very quickly, in a squeaky or comic voice, or write them down.
ETC .................................................Sorry I could not post in my reply because the initial post is too long but please check that post. The post is called "Defusing techniques "
Take care and let's us know how you are getting on. Patricia
You're all so inspiring...thanks monzi, jojo, Jacqueline & Patricia:) I'm going to revise my own list now...
