Hello all
I recently watched a film Frida for my film therapy group. I have to say I was enthralled for the full 2 hours and did not take my eyes off the screen even for a second. What struck me in the film was the passion, colour, rawness, sensuality, creativity, power of human emotion, a story of love, expression. I could go on, I recommend everyone take a look.
But my significant other watched and sighed repeatedly the next day, such that I enquired, as you would expect, whats up. It turned out , the film evoked a whole other set of feelings for him. It highlighted to him the lack of physical closeness in our relationship. I was shocked to be honest. What a shame to focus on one aspect , when there were so many layers in the film. But then, thats what stood out, thats whats on his mind, thats whats hurting him the most at the moment.
I suppose thats part of how films can work. We see films differently wholly based on where we are in our own lives. But more importantly, it was an opportunity for me to learn about what my subconscious yearns for and only I can work on that. As for him, well I must admit I am disappointed that the immediate impact was to go into that place of , sigh!! I don't have as much sex as the people in the movie, but I have to accept that. I hope the other layers will have also hit home on some level. I also hope that he sees why their lives were so passionate and colourful, and it wasn't about their sex lives, it was about their passion for life, sex was the by-product in my mind.
So what have I learned. Well I learned some more about what I miss in my own life, and he in his. It also highlighted the importance of being true to who one is at the end of the day and letting others live by their own conscience.
I've alot more to say, but thats an opener!

Thanks Kizzy for your post-I

Thanks Kizzy for your post-I have to say I still love the movie Frida-I saw the movie years ago and I remenber finding the movie extremely inspiring .Frida' strenght and determination to do life despite her horrific bus accident is still with me. It just shows us that we can do everything we put our mind to do.We can recover if we put our mind to it.

Kiz, I really admire your

Kiz,

I really admire your honesty here. and for being able to be true to you or even touch on the subjects you mention. I recently asked my mam to watch a film i thought could help her understand what i go through on a daily basis a bit more. i still have to ask her her views but rather than change mine to suit her i am going to hold onto my opinion. as you said ppl take different things from films. maybe she will see something different to me maybe not. Just wanted to say i love this, thanks x

There is no magic cure, no making it all go away forever. There are only small steps upward; an easier day, an unexpected laugh, a mirror that doesn't matter anymore.

Thank you Kiz for sharing

Thank you Kiz for sharing with us you learning from “Frida” This is one of my favorite films; there is so much courage, so much inspiration and so much humanity in this film.
I remember when this film came out, we even had a group session on it – we left so full of love and hunger for recovery and for life.
Definitely great film to watch when you feel like the life is not easy.
Thanks again
