Hello fellow icebergers, with the upcoming film workshop soon to commence, I have decided to shhare ith u a few film reviews. I am a film fanatic and have decided to indulge in a bit of critiquing of the latest releases, stretching the value of my 7 euro spent on a very regular basis in my local omniplex.
My first film is 'The Adjustment Bureau' starring Matt Damon, playing the role of an aspairational presidential candidate called David Norris (the name is the only similarity I can draw to our own Mr. Norris) and Emily Blunt who plays an up and coming contemporary Ballerina named Elise. The film is a beautiful story about destiny, action packed ith a contrasting romantic undertone. solely based around the chemistry between a man and woman which is so strong, succeeds in connecting them on a deeper level.
After a breif yet provcative encounter between Elise and Norris in the toilet of a luxury Manhattan hotel, Norris the then candidate for president is inspired by this enchating woman Elise, to address an auditorium full of memebers of the press and other party memebers in the most unorthedox of manners. Norris gives a groundbreaking and revolutionising political speech, immediately boosting his campaign. Unfortunately despite the boost he fails to win the presidential post, this time round.
Norris deciding to play it safe for awhile takes up a mundane office job in a friends large business firm. One sunny morning while taking the bus to work it is by chance that he bumps into Elise (or is it?). The chemistry between the pair is immediately ignited and they swap digits. At this point I began to settle down into another familiar romcom (which I always love). This, however is rudely interrupted when the 'Adjustment bureau'officers intervene (a higher power from above) These modern day angels forbid Norris from atttempting to make any further contact with Elise, warning him of the heavy consequences he and she will both pay for what will inevitably be a failed attempt to be together.Norris crippled by the fear of preventing Elise form fulfilling her destiny of becoming a world class choreographer and aswell as paralysing his own fate to becoming president, obey the officers for a time. However it quickly becomes too much for him to bear and Norris is compelled to find the absent woman who despite such continues to captivate his mind. Enlisting the help of an officer in breech of the bureau, Norris maps out a risky plan in order to reach Elise.
This movie vicerally displays the power of love, by following a mans quest to risk everything to be with the woman he loves. That women in return reciprocates such love and is willing to haplessly follow him into the unknown
Emily Blunt once again proves herself to be a truly award winning actor. I was left in awe of her seemingly enumerable talents. As she plays the part of a contemporary ballerina I found myself pondering the notion as to weather or not she had a body double to clever enact the movements for the performance scenes or if she herself had mastered the art of dance. Regardless, her worth here is worthy only of compliments as she plays a likeable and relateable character to a universal audience. Unlike previous characters shes played for example 'The Devil wears Prada', showing the broad range of her talent.
This is a great film of movtivation, determination and resilence. Ir opened up the whole debate on fate or free will.

film reconmendation

hellow:) saw a fantastic film last night. It was called UNITED.It told the story of the circumstances leading up to the the Manchester United Munich air disaster and the aftermath. Dont let the fact thats its about a football team put you off. Its a very moving story of reiselance and getting on with things even in the darkest hours. My favourite characters in the film are Sir Bobby Charlton (Jack Charlton's brother) and Jimmy Murphy the couch at the time played by David Tennet. I found it quite touching how Jimmy was able to get Bobby to come back to the club after the crash even though he was dealing with his own grief. Giving him that little nudge he needed to honer the memoery of his friends and fellow team mates. films like this share a commen theme. Never give up, never give in. Sir Matt Busby put it best in the film when he says ''Rise like a pheonix from the ashes''

Time to re-connect

Firstly, an ongoing "latest

Firstly, an ongoing "latest film releases" is a great idea - cinema is a great way of escaping all the confusing thoughts for a while and just letting an imaginary world take over.

Moreover, so much of recovery is in developing flexibility and learning to have the freedom to adapt. In doing this I am learning that some things I though I hated, I really enjoy and others I always thought I liked, I don't. Maybe it's that I didn't give myself a change to tolerate things I thought I hated, or that I hadn't the patience for them? And perhaps things I thought I liked, I only liked as I thought I should?

The point is, I am now finding myself enjoying films I'd never have given time of day before! An example being "Cowboys and Aliens".

Yes, I can hear many of you groaning. And I can detect the more subtle amongst you just wincing slightly. But in all frankness, I thought that this was great fun!

Think about it: a western with Harrison Ford and Daniel Craig - gun slinging, lounges with half doors, ranches and period dress and a world of danger and excitement and cowboys and indians...but with the charm of that pair. Who'd complain.

So then we get to the aliens. Why not? It adds a bit of that "Independance Day" buzz and abandon.

Speaking as someone who avoids Sci Fi and fantasy like the plague, and likes action for the first 5 mins before thinking "yes I get the point, now move on with the story please", who counts "When Harry Met Sally", "White Christmas", "Private Benjamin" and the likes amongst her favourite films, this film was fun and had charm (a la Ford, and Craig to a lesser extent).

And fun is defo good for recovery!

Something Borrowed

Recently out on video (we missed it in the cinema) and a lovely romcom, is "Something Borrowed".

This is a really nice, easy romcom. Same kind of escapism as is offered by "You've Got Mail" or "My Best Friend's Wedding". It is warm and funny, very likeable cast and nicely made.

The story won't challenge, but actually I was never sure how it was going to turn out until the end. Moreover, the relationships between the leads were really believable - I got butterflies in my tummy. These days romcom is rarely "nice" like this, so I very rarely get the butterflies. This brought on butterflies!

Kate Hudson put in the kind of performance that only a daughter of Goldie Hawn (who I think is an absolutely icon - go see "Private Benjamin"!) could.

If you want an hour or two of giggling, smiling and butterflies, nice settings (think NY, Central Park in good weather and rich peoples' beach houses...), stylish clothes, then this is for you.
