how families and teachers can help
Hi guys
Just looking for some thghts and feeback, If you saw in Marino there is a date for teachers on how teachers can help in terms of ED. I just thght it would be interesting to get a debateb on how family members and teacehrs can help combat or curtail teh ever increasing problem. I know in my life, my family were not able to be there. Feelings were not expressed in my house, in fact, most of us ran from them by keeping busy running around forkm one thing to the next. Even to this day i know where i learnt it, my Dad rarely sits still! When my Mum past he worked very hard, in essence threw himself into work as it was too painful to worry about the future and to deal with the pain, this is what i did with my ED. My sister also is very sensitive and her pain has come out in other ways. However, it was difficult and still is for my family to admit i ahd a problem and to this day they think oh she had some problems with food!! Really ist so much more than this. I love my family and i dojnt blame them we all went thru the same thing but i also think out of fear, anger and sadness they did not know or want to cope with what was going on. My dad tried his best, hut is very difficlut for a man to understand, particulalry a real country man!! His anser was i dont undertsand why u cant just eat 3 meals a day and that be that!!
As a teacher there is a huge need for understanding, supppoirt etc in school,s even the guidance counsellors do not know how to deal with it. Teachers are role models and i feel what we do is a huge reflectiojn on us and a lot of students look up to that. The chat around the staffroom about diets etc really frustrates mke as i can only imagine what is being said in home economics, sphe, pe,
Any thghts???
Love BUtterfly xx
i think the workshop for guidance teachers is a great idea and i hope many go as it will give them a greater understanding of ed. inmy day in school no one understood ed and even if so they thought you had to be stick thin which shows the lack of understanding about them firstly and ed suffers were know as also selfish vain attention seeking people which is actually the very opposite the condition is the selfish etc not the person.i do teaching myself and i also feel that my students really lack self esteem , confidence and lack expressing themselfs they are more concious, many perfectionists, under alot of pressure and stress and i feel that theres many factors contributing to this society education peer pressure parents teachers celebs etc. i do think parents need to be more aware also of ed i was lucky in that i have a great family and they understand me and how condition works but also the fact that they are willing to learn is very important and also the fact that they believe that i can fully recover and am nearly there is also very motivating.
abit of a rant but yes i think if people like our peers the people we are around most teachers parents and look up to are willing to learn about the ways to help and motivate freedom fighters i am certain it will hepl alot of the youth today and in the future.
