films
I have really gotten into films lately, listening to M's advice in group. It really hit me when she said a film is not a treat but a must. I would always wait nearly months at a time to either but a movie or rent one. In the past two weeks I am absolutely absorbing all the dvds I have and popping into HMV to see what cheap offers I can get. here's what Ive watched/learned so far
Freida- I knew everybody in Marino was going on about this film. And like a stubborn child, I was refusing to watch it. Listening to condition like as if it knew I would get something out of it that would ruin the ed. Well I watched it and condition was proved wrong. At first, I was sitting there looking intently for the 'lesson' and completely missing out on the lesson. I have such inspiration for freida, from not having any belief in her artwork to travelling to paris to show it off, trusting in her husband and manager that people would love it. I could feel her pain throughout the film and so the film had worked its magic, I was feeling something!!!
A beautiful mind- i think this has had the most effect on me. It was so like condition and showing a person trying and pushing through to ignore the condition. He put his trust and faith in his wife and came out the better and brighter side.
Inside Im dancing- I absolutely loved this film. I never even thought about it until some of the kids in school told me they were studing it for the Leaving Cert. God it made me laugh and cry. It showed the human ability to push through anything but also when to ask for help. When to realise that you maybe in the worst trouble ever and that you need help from others. Pride sometimes in this film got one of the characters nowhere and you cant beat the good irish humour in it.
Erin brokovich- i bought it yesterday, havnt watched it yet!!!
The secret life of bees- i initially read the book and then watched the film, really just to see if they stuck to the main story. I really fell in love with this book/film. It showed a 14 yr old girl looking for love, believing that she deserved love and respect. It really hit me because respecting myself came up in a session, and I really dont, so it showed me what i have to work on.
Billy elliot- really just love the music and dancing and following your dreams regardless of what other people think about you
Feel free to add to the list

Hi Amanda, I've seen all these except 'The Secret Life of Bees'...based on your short review, I think I'll have to put it on the list!
I think you'll love Erin Brokovich - strong women are such an inspiration and it's so effortlessly freeing to learn about them, I find.
Three others I'd highly recommend are 'The Kite Runner', 'Milk' and 'Made in Dagenham'. The latter two are based on true stories, which is always a draw for me, and feature strong people, defying the odds.
I'm sure you probably know already that 'A Beautiful Mind' is also based on a true story. I've found the central concept extraordinarily helpful in dealing with a certain element of recovery. I couldn't seem to stop myself thinking a certain set of thoughts, but, on C's advice, I decided i'd just let myself think them, but not pay any heed to them, just as the main character in that film allows the thoughts he has to reside in his mind, but knows they are nonsense and pays them no attention.
Enjoy your continued viewing!

Loved reading your post. :). You are a women after my own heart. I've seen all the films you mentioned. I thought the were all good. Not only Can film be an escape for a little while, but they can also help us communicate how we feel if we can't find the words need to express ourselves. Films can also release pent up emotions be it laughter or tears this has a knock on effect on our health as it reduces stress levels. This has been proven by the latest research out today:).
