For so many years I have always picked up hobbies put quit after awhile after I had tortured myself that I will never be good enough, and that there will always be someone better then me..Sound familiar to anyone?

A particular hobby of mine is playing the drums, I started at the age of 11 and even from then, even though loving to play, I would never see myself good enough, so never once did I EVER play infront of anybody apart from my drum teacher whom I presume dreaded my lessons as I would always be on the verge of tears when I didn't get things straight away...after a few yearsI just gave up on the drums, and I gave up on myself never believing I ever had any talent in it. ( Ok the good news is coming soon, promise)

5 years on, I'm on a work placement, a colleague tells me his band are looking for a drummer (prior to this I had actually gone to see his band and they are pretty good and get alot of gigs) Lately I have been feeling good about myself and have decided to live my life doing things i once FEARed ( False .Evidence. Appearing. Real) so I told him I would try out.

Tuesday Morning he hands me a CD and tells me Learn a song by Thursday. I was so scared with all the same emotions from before trying to get back in to my mind, "there's no point", "you're not good enough", "just give up", but I decided not to listen!

Thursday came, I played, we jammed, even just made up a few random songs together, me still weary of what they were thinking....

The GOOD news is... I'M IN THE BAND!!!! They thought I was great, they saw alot of drummers but were really impressed..they thought I had talent! I couldn't be happier right now.

I faced my first fear and found my passion for music again!!

WE SHOULD ALL FACE ATLEAST ONE FEAR AND EXCEED ARE OWN EXPECTATIONS TODAY!

Oh Sophia, PLEASE embrase

Oh Sophia, PLEASE embrase your talent because it's obviously there. Every Tom, Dick and Harry with a musical instrument wants to join a band but only those with TALENT get accepted :-) If you really enjoy playing the drums, then my guess is you are good at it!

For many, many years I played the piano. I loved playing it and really expressed myself through those ivory keys. Only problem was I thought I was rubbish. I thought that when my family friends or relations begged me to play for them that they were asking me out of pity. Now, in my 30s, looking back at home videos, I realise that actually I was extemely talented but I DID NOT SEE IT cos the condition would not allow me to see it. PLEASE embrase your talents hun, cos as I said already, if you enjoy it, you are more than likely talented at it :-)

Now, when's the concert?!?!

Facing fears

Sophia, I have just seen your post for the first time. FANTASTIC, WELL DONE! I think this quotation ties in so well with what you have written about.

'We cannot escape fear. We can only transform it into a companion that accomppanies us on all our exciting adventures... Take a risk a day - one small bold stroke that will make you feel great once you have done it.'
Susan Jeffers

The size of the risk is not important - it might be signing up for the evening class you have always wanted to do or adding UDO's oil to your porridge or speaking to the person sitting beside you on the bus - but it feels so good to have faced the fear and done it. Paula
