I love January. There is so much to look forward to in the new year.

Here are a few things I thought people might be interested in...

1. This year, the Titanic's centenary is being marked in Cork. See www.titanic100.ie for festivities.

A woman is walking on the road and a voice shouts out, "Don't take a step further." She obeys and suddenly a ton of bricks fall on the place where she would have otherwise been. She thinks she imagined it and keeps walking until suddenly the voice calls out again. "Don't take a step further." She stops and a car skids past. Then suddenly she hears the voice saying "I am your guardian angel, and I will warn you before something bad happens to you. Now do you have any questions to ask me?" Yes! Shouts the woman, "Just where were you on my wedding day!"

When NASA first started sending up astronauts, they quickly discovered that ballpoint pens would not work in zero gravity. To combat the problem, NASA scientists spent a decade and $12 billion to develop a pen that writes in zero gravity, upside down, underwater, on almost any surface including glass and at temperatures ranging from below freezing to 300°C.

The Russians used a pencil.

Please have a listen to my lovely friend Claire, who has Cystic Fibrosis, and wrote a song last Christmas with her friend Fiona.
This December, they released it, and it is available at Tower Records and HMV (and a few other record shops, I think), as well as itunes, and all proceeds go to the Tracie Lawlor Trust and another charity whose name escapes me now. Both the charities work to promote research into how methods such as reiki and tai chi can be used alongside conservative medicine, to help people with CF live full, healthy lives, as far as possible.

"I smoke three packs of cigarettes a day," he said. "I also drink a case of whiskey a week, eat fatty foods, and never exercise."

I was takin my son to school this mornin and my car hit black ice,went out of control and hit a tree.The car has quite a bit of damage but I don't care as long as my son is ok.It just made me think how lucky we are to be in this wonderful world,I have been struggling a bit lately.I kinda thought that when I really decided I don't want this condition anymore that poof!!
