The Housework & Recovery

We read a lot of tips that could help us in Recovery, there are so many different suggestions, but one tip I feel is a little bit neglected – the value of housework.
I probably would not be very popular with many Icebergers, especially the younger age group, still living at home, but please give this a thought.

Often when I ask parents: Does your daughter or son helps you at home?
People look at me like of I had two heads. So many parents are afraid to ask their children to help with cleaning, washing, ironing and other types of housework.

Anti-Depressants Likely Do More Harm Than Good

Anti-Depressants Likely Do More Harm Than Good, Study Suggests

Just wanted to share with you this week research re antidepressants.
Many people with Eating Distress are prescribed a lot of medication as part of their treatments, often without any blood tests and comprehensive check ups. I find this very alarming and very sad.

As Franz Kafka said: “It is easier to prescribe than understand” This is very relevant statement, many people who do not understand the condition, just prescribe…

Weighing our children could cause bigger problems...

Recently we had a great discussion about healthcare and the lack of understanding of ED on our Forum http://www.eatingdisorderselfhelp.com/forum/healthcare-and-eating-distre... - yet more proof how much more we all need to learn.

I do not know how many of you saw today’s headlines:
“CHILDREN SHOULD BE weighed in school and plans are underway to make it happen, according to medical experts….”

Talents are meant for sharing, not hiding

I am not a musical expert. I played piano for many years because of my parents, but do not remember single tunes, only my teacher’s voice – your fingers are too small… I know music is important, but it would not be number one in my life. I always would prefer to spend money more on a good film, than a CD. All this is changed from last Wednesday.

Turning loss to something inspirational

Recently I saw wonderful film “We Bought A Zoo”. I think seeing this film could be a great help to people in recovery from Eating Distress. Cameron Crown, the director said himself that one of the reasons why he made this film was to put some joy out into the world… He definitely succeeded. Watching this film can bring you a lot of motivation and joy.

Movies & Your Recovery

Many people do not realise that watching a lot of films can be a great help in their Recovery. It sound so easy, how it can be so helpful?

We know that the Recovery journey is not an easy process, but it is important that we look  for different ways to make it more interesting for ourselves. Sometimes the simpler things can have the bigegest positive affect on us, and watching films is one of them.

War with our bodies....

For most of my life I was at war with my body and I did not even realise it. I think there are many people in this situation today. I think many people in the western world have lost their body - mind connection.
I came cross a study that showed that the diet industry is making up to $77 billion profit a year. We worry so much about weight gain, but I think it is time to worry about these profit numbers.

Happy New Year to everyone:)

When I was a little girl, I used to spend the New Year’s Eve with my grandparents. I was always wondering how the years changed. My grandfather used to tell me story, about a fight, which took place that last night of the year. He always said that this is a very special night, were the New Year is going to fight with the Old Year and the better one would win. I always wanted to wait to see the fight, but than I did fall asleep. First thing in the morning I run to my grand father and asked him: Which year did win?

He said: the better one – the New Year…. I was trilled.

Christmas Food Fears

For many people this season is all about fun, giving receiving and many other enjoyable things, but when you suffer from ED, it can be a time of fears. Fears about nourishment can be stronger than any other time of the year. We often hear that Recovery is not about the food, that is true, but we as well know that the brain needs a lot of energy, if it not there, a lot of irrational thoughts are taking over, that is not you deserve this Christmas.
