Denial

So much can be written about denial. I love to keep my blogs short, so hopefully I will succeed to say in few sentences what is on my mind. Working with ED sufferers and their families I can see the denial issues is getting worst and worse. I wrote last blog about the need of more understanding and yes, the lack of understanding and many fears can be some of the reasons why so many people are in denial at the present time.

When I suffered from ED I always thought that I have no problem, I just need to loose couple kilos and life will be great. Today I can see that not only for most of my life I was going through different types of denial. If anybody would confront me, I would just become more defensive and go deeper and deeper in pretending that everything is ok…
ED condition includes a built-in mechanism for perpetuating itself - a subconscious, selective blindness called denial.
Many people suffering from ED can deny having the problem or that it causes anyone harm. An ED sufferers may tell themselves that they have the situation under control, all that they need is to do some small changes and everything will be O.K. Most sufferers feel that the situation is ‘not so bad’ and if it is bad it has nothing to do with their ED. They are not lying; they really believe this. This distortion is a psychological defence mechanism. Camouflaging facts or minimising their impact gets them through crises and painful periods as safely and ‘normally’ as possible.
Many family members are in denial. Often they are so afraid of the condition and it is easier to think that everything is ok. Some people feel that they have no choice, because they don't see any other option, the denial becomes the only one.

I could write forever about this subject, denial can be very comfortable but it can keep us really stock in progressing and living. When we let go of our denials, we can start to progress, we can start to use our potential, we can free ourselves.
Let’s check on our denials…
Freedom is denial absent living, let’s go for it, everybody deserve it!
