Happiness and ED Recovery
When I ask people: ‘What is Recovery from Eating Distress? ‘ The answer I get very often is: ‘I want to be happy’
What is happiness?
Festive times are starting and soon we will be surrounded by all these smiling faces in advertisements reminding us what we do not have and telling us that we are not good enough and we can’t be happy until we have this or that product.
Where is the connection between Happiness and Recovery?
I think often we just want happiness without asking what it actually means to us. It is important for us to explore what it is that makes us happy and not to think that happiness is only for other people. Happiness is not a destination, it is the way we are living. It is our attitude and acceptance of nature’s laws and many other things.
Maybe we need to start to believe that it is possible to be happy and that
this coming Christmas season we can experience happiness and be more open to it. Believing that you can be happy and taking responsibility for your own happiness is another description of the Recovery process. We cannot just sit and wait until they find the magic pill, which will give us this happiness.
I always used to wait for something exciting to happen, for some magic post, magic man or magic surprise…it never came. I only started to experience happiness when I stop waiting for it and realised that I can be a very lucky person by learning to accept myself the way I am.
I think happiness is gratitude, appreciation of living and the people around us. Please do not waste time waiting until you are happy, make a decision to be happy, because YOU deserve that.
Happiness is a state of mind where we start to think that life is and will be good. You don't find happiness, you make happiness. You choose happiness, choose Your Recovery, choose it now, you will not regret it:)
Thank you for reading it
