The Celestine Prophecy

Hi C,

I read this book at the beginning of my recovery journey so it was a little while ago - a bit hasey in my memory too.

As far as I remember though it thought me about looking for 'oppertunities' in life. The author talks about the fact that sometimes 'coincidences' come our way. He says that we need to be aware of these 'coincidences' to follow the path of our destiny/the most beneficial path for us. He mentions that sometimes we can be so blinded by what we think we 'should do' when making choices in our life that we pass these fantastic oppertunities by. I dunno if this makes sense, but I guess it thought me to be more connected, to live in the present moment more and to keep my mind open for these 'coincidences' or oppertunities/ to be more resourceful. An example of one of these was deciding not to go on a J1 in college, primarily because I was in recovery and it wouldn't have made logical sense. I was disappointed but instead I decided to look for a summer job. I ended up landing a dream summer job which i loved all because I opened myself up to the possibility of it and was open to new experiences. The 'dream summer job' helped me land my current job in the height of the dreaded R so it ended up being a good road to take!!! It also showed me what I could acheive and it helped me find a career path that I was genuinely interested in. I certainly wouldn't have got the job or realised these things if I had gone on a J1.

You are right about the energy too. The book thought me about 'power struggles' and about getting 'energy' or positivity from the beauty around us in nature and everyday life as opposed to dependence/co-dependency on others which I found was a useful realisation at the time. It also talks about 'energy suckers'- useful people to avoid!

I think the book shouldn't be taken literally but it is more beneficial to take parts of it with a pinch of salt and then to take the meanings which are right for you from it. I would probably say the same for all self-help books really - they are guides which we can draw realisations from but they are also just the authors opinions so it is important to filter as well and to make your own judgements.

Hope this helps!

Going with the flow!

Hi Martha, thank you so much for the fantastic reply!

When I lived in the east coast of America, a friend of mine asked me if I wanted to go to California for a few weeks with a group of people. Gosh I'd love to go to California, but at the time I was stressing alot about trying to squeeze as much work experience into my CV as possible before leaving the States. I did 2 internships at the same time :-)

Now that I've calmed down a bit, I had been regretting for a while; "Why did I not just go to California and have a great few weeks of FUN in the sun???!!!!?". But now I realise that I was worried about being with a group of people 24/7 (no need to elaborate on that one!). But even more importantly, with the big R, my work experience is REALLY working to my advantage now as a new college graduate.

The subconscious mind ALWAYS knows what's best!!!

Oh and congrats on your career :-)
Take care,

C

It's long time ago that I

It's long time ago that I read the book, but to be honest, I can't believe that it was made into a film...I don't think any kind of film could ever do the message in the book justice, it would rather end up some cheesy, tacky want-to-be new-age western or something, I, in fact, can't imagine the film...
The book, on the other hand, I really loved...it was a bit simplistic in some areas, but that only meant that the over-all message was understandable, graspable, not only for academics or people who are totally into aura and energy-fields, but also for Joe Soap...
Now, I probably read it some 15 years ago and don't remember particular things, so I guess I'll have a re-read first, before I say more...
Love,
