random/fun alternative to gym
Hi all,
I have been going through quite a bumpy patch the past while on my wee road to recovery. I have been really struggling to let go of certain behaviours associated with the condition. I was only fooling myself though. For quite a while now I have been trying to convince those who care and mainly myself that I was okay with the gym now. The truth is though that even though I wasn't going as often, or pushing myself as hard when I did go, I still went for very image-focused reasons and going there almost undid all my good work in therapy and at home on fostering positive thoughts.
And so, I arrive at the reason for this post. (apologies for the mini-digression above) I have been trying my hardest to think of a way to exercise in an enjoyable way, i.e for me the gym is all about the 'body' and changing your body but I want to find a way that is more about health and moreover about fun.....soooo I've decided that I'm going to take up rollerblading. Everybody in my family thinks that I am mad and I have no doubt that everybody in my small town will get a right kick out of seeing me strutting my stuff down the prom of an evening but ya know what, I don't bloody care. I haven't been rollerblading since I was a kid but I was pretty damn good at it back then and am very excited to find out if I am any good these days!!
I just wanted to share my very exciting (if maybe quite silly) news!
Hope that everybody is happy and healthy and feeling fabulous on this lovely spring evening,
A xxx

A big gorgeous sunny hello to
A big gorgeous sunny hello to my fellow freedom fighters!
After alot of procrastination I finally bought my rollerblades....
I felt the fear: What if people from work see me? What if I fall? What if I actually can't do it? What if, what if, what if....
But, I did it anyway: It was the most freeeeeeeeeing experience ever!!!!! In response to my fears, yes, people saw me - I didn't care! Yes, I fell, FIVE TIMES in fact - I was howling laughing as and after I did though, I just couldn't help but laugh!!!! And no I wasn't crap, in fact I was well able, room for improvement yes, but well able all the same.
My god it was the most fun I've had in YONKS!!! I've got grazes like you used get when you were a kid and I'm loving them, the sensation of them almost take me back to my childhood.
I swear guys you all HAVE to try it, so so so so so much fun!!!
I had thought about skipping it and going to a Body Pump class instead and my god all I can say is FLIP the gym because not alone did I have a ball, I also sweated buckets and got some lovely, happy, healthy, POSITIVE exercise and fresh air in my lungs!
Sending everyone a big positive hug from sunny Munster,
A xx

Looking after the child within...
Hey there, dear beautiful A.
Oh, you know, roller-blading IS real fun, I can tell you from my own experience...as, you may believe it or not, I gave myself a pair of roller-blades as a present to myself and my child within...to my 40th birthday!!!! :-) :-D
Now they are always in the boot of my car, and the best area to blade I have found so far is Phoenix Park. A summer evening in Phoenix park you will see plenty of bladers roll up and down the length of the park, and they are in all grades, really sporty sophisticated ones, and ones that seem to be standing on these things for the first time in their life. It really is fun, and you'll see that you are not just that silly or weird after all. Well, my own wee inner child just loves it!!!
Lots of love, and happy blading :-)

You've just made my day
You've just made my day Robin, thanks so much. I was having doubts yesterday about whether it was just a silly idea and even felt silly for having posted it to iceberg but now I'm delighted that I did. So happy that somebody else has tried it! Now, a recovered me wouldn't need anyone else to have tried it or anyone else's 'approval' before embarking on this little (ad)venture but the reality is that I'm not recovered, not by a long shot, and for that reason thanks so much to you, Sonya and to Iceberg for providing me with the reassurance that I need.
