What not to wear!!
Hello beautifuls!!
I was watching "what not to wear" earlier, Im not generally a fan of these types of shows (the operation tranformations of todays television!) but i thought there was something refreshing about this particular show.
For starters they never put the person down, they dont tell them they have to change to be ok, essentially they dont change anything about the individual.
What they do is open the persons eyes to the positives about themselves and encourage them to emphasise those positives, they point out all the beautiful things about the person, they work with everything the person already has. Yes they give the person a complete makeover, but really they are just uncovering and highlighting the beauty already there.
It got me thinking about recovery and how i always believed in order to be happy it was essential that i change, a complete overhaul. But everything i needed to be happy was and is already within me, i just wasnt giving it the attention it deserved. I was hiding underneath everything i hated about myself because thats where my focus was, on all my shortcomings, failures and weaknesses. But no one is perfect, if you spend your life trying to fix whats "wrong" then you will waste all that you do have, all your talents, all your positives and your strenghts, because unfortunately all your energy would be diverted away from these wonderful things onto focusing on what you don't like.
The lesson ive taken from it (haha who knew you could learn from lazy Sunday telly!!) is to put my energy into what i like about myself. I know this stuff weve all prob heard before but
- use your talents, because they are there you may just be focusing so much on what you dont do well to realise what you do well
- get out that magnifying glass and highlight the positives about yourself, thats where you put your focus ;)
- There ARE beautiful things about you, emphasise them!!
Yup there probably are negative things about you, whatever! so what?! Stop letting it rob your energy and give the world the gift of your beauty, let yourself shine!!
Hope you all have a great week lovelies
Hugs,

Clothes
Hey Joanne,
I totally agree- I love that programme. I know myself that with the right clothes, I feel sexy, confident, and happy with my body too. With horrible clothes, I feel fat, frumpy and unattractive. I feel alot better with my makeup done nicely (but not over the top) and my hair freshly washed, blowdried and styled nicely. It's not vanity- it's self-care and helps me feel good!
It's also very interesting to see the psychology behind why people dress goofy or very frumpy or stuck in the 80s etc. Sometimes people can over compensate with outrageous clothes to build a barrier between themselves and others, or keep dressing like a child to prevent relationships getting past a superficial level. Or some busy mums think they are being selfish and vain by dressing nicely.
Another great programme is Gok Wan's 'How To Look Good Naked'. I'd highly recommend everyone to watch it. It's all about emphasising your natural body shape e.g. instead of saying "I'm fat", think "I've got great boobs, so will pick clothes to enhance, not hide them!".
Glad you had a nice, relaxing Sunday and learnt something too!
