From the different GP’s point of view - The prisoner of ED
The Prisoner of ED
An Eating distress (ED) is a very complicated and confusing mixture of relationships affecting, contrary to ones beliefs, a huge number of people. It affects the sufferer (my body I can do anything ) till the patient becomes enslaved to the disorder. It is exactly like being a prisoner in a jail in Thailand for position of drugs .You will loose weight rapidly and significantly, due to the small portions /lack of food .You are isolated with no contacts, lonely, obsessed with food and exercise. The muscles are wasting .When the muscle wastes (trying to provide energy for a body demanding energy, for multiple activities with no outside source of energy ),The muscles gradually are unable to do simple activities ,walking ,exercising getting up,A typical example, trying to get out of bed , you have to use your arms to help your back and abdominal muscles to get out of bed ,no strength!
You acquire a silo dead colour (not a tan), due to a failing liver, failing kidneys and decreased blood supply to the skin, also lack of moisture in the skin .The skin cracks, becomes itchy, bruises easy, and multiple sites of infection could be found.
Lack of adipose tissue under the skin will increase the chance of pressure sores, especially for the sit up guys. They are bloody painful (part of your prison torture).
The prisoner will not have shaving facilities, you will, however have hair on the face and skin due to lack of oestrogen (ovaries are failing), and you will loose hair from the scalp, (increased testerone to oestrogen ratio as well as b12 and iron deficiency).
It is confusing. You are promised beauty by the eating distress. Loose weight, look more beautiful. But what are you given in return? Hairy face, falling hair, silo colour skin with multiple bruises and bed sores .Terrible brittle nails due to lack of calcium. You will eventually get a beautiful prison posture, hunched back sue to osteoporosis, and very skinny legs that are not able to carry your weight. There will be a bulging abdomen, the liver, as it is failing, begins to enlarge trying to compensate. You don’t need lip stick, the eating disorder will give a nice blue lip (cyanosis due to vasoconstriction and heart failure ).You don’t need eye make up, for you will get beautiful black/blue circles under your eyes from dehydration and malnutrition.
There is great entertainment in the prison, self mutilation, cutting your- self, punishing your self for eating, by the eating distress
Who needs tattoos when you can make your own?
Mom and Dad are doing the prison dance .They spend ages worrying about you, they can’t find you. Little information. Nobody is telling them where you are (you are trapped in your little prison alone, pushing people away, defending any intrusion.
Authorities in Thailand would love your expertise in hiding the truth and resisting any interference.
Mom and dad will go everywhere trying to get help (they will receive similar answer from the department of foreign affairs, the punishment of death is very severe, and our hands are tied. The Thailand authorities (eating distress) will not allow any outside intervention. Parents will be asking anyone for help willing to do anything to get their daughter out. So before the door become totally closed and it becomes difficult to get out of prison of eating distress.
There are plenty of lawyers that are able to help you if you seek help early.
Therefore seek help early. No need for a life sentence or Death penalty.
Freedom does exist – even for you – be freedom fighter!!!

makes you think ....
thanks for the post tarek ,powerful stuff ,it does really make you think 'is it all worth it ?' certainly not ! i wish someone had shown me this when all this first started ,would have made a big difference to the way in which i viewed ed . however they did nt but im able to read it to day and for that i am thankful ,its a little extra kick up that i need and makes me think .by the way in reference to the above :for all of us that ever have considered wanting a carrer in modelling ,i dont think the above list of,not so delightful bodily condtions are what is asked for on the application form ... just something that reminded me ,from my own list of previous dreams . but the important thing to remember i guess, is that life dreams dont have to stay 'previous',we can as we move further on in to recovery cross each and every one of those physical not so 'attributes' ,contributed to by ed, off the spectrum of our appearance ,both inside and out ,:)
think this would be helpful
think this would be helpful for all those struggling with ensures at the mo
u cant plough a field by turning it over in ur mind!
Absolutely powerful stuff
Absolutely powerful stuff Tarek. Thank you.
Eeeeeekkkkk!!!!
Thanks for the downright chilling post Tarek!
With Nicole Richie and Paris Hilton splashed all over the magazines when I was deep in the condition, I was chasing a "glamourous" life, "more attractive"!!!
The list above does not sound too attractive or glamorous!! If I'd read something like that a few years ago, I would have said "Yeah right!". But just a warning to those who think that the above is an exaggeration- it's not!! I've experienced some of the above and I'm only in my early 20s.
