Leap Year- A silly film for LAUGHS!!
Before seeing the movie, I heard enough reviews about Leap Year to think that I was going to see the worst film ever. I was expecting a stupid, predictable film that was highly insulting to Ireland. Added to the mix is a non-Irish actor with a dodgy “Oirish” accent.
I was pleasantly surprised after watching Leap Year. Admittedly, it mightn’t be the most “manly” film, but as a girl looking for a light and fluffy comedy- I loved it! Yes it is Hollywood’s usual depiction of Ireland; farms, no technology, pubs, all roads looking like you’re driving through the middle of nowhere in Connemara…. But I thought that it was harmless fun!
The story follows Anna, an American career-woman who wants to propose to her boyfriend, who is in Dublin, on Leap Year. Unfortunately due to severe weather conditions, she gets stranded first in Cardiff Airport, then Dingle. The film follows her journey through the wilderness of Irish countryside, in the banger car of a local pub owner.
Good if you’re looking for: A light and silly film with few laughs. A good way to get out of your own head for a few hours and stop thinking about "doing recovery"
Bad if you’re looking for: A deep, intellectually heavy film
