The Power Of Positivity
Hi All,
I just wanted to post a quick comment about the power of positivity.
For so long I thought motivation and change came from being hard on yourself and forcing yourself to change but I can honestly say this hasn't worked so far for me - quite the opposite actually - and it's very liberating for me to be learning at the moment that there is another way, that I DON'T HAVE to be so hard on myself. It's difficult to break the mental habits of negativity and self-condemnation that I've relied on so far in my life but it's surprising how quickly things can change if you are open to new ideas and new thoughts. Positivity really is so much stronger than negativity!
Already, although only in the relatively early stages of recovery, I feel much better in myself. Sure, it's not all fixed in a couple of days or even a couple of weeks, but I can see the positive changes occurring. I am so much more relaxed and more able to cope with things that happen. I am more easily able to see how many good things I have in my life rather than focusing on the few things I don't like. I'm learning to communicate better with the people in my life. I'm learning how to make changes that mean I can really enjoy my life and make the most of it.
It is incredibly freeing to think of myself and my life as something I have the power to control at the most basic level (my thoughts and attitude) and know that while many external things in life are outside my control I have the ability to cope with them. In the past I was so busy trying to control things outside myself I didn't understand that I really was just at the mercy of life because I didn't know how to deal with myself and my reactions to situations.
I'd already read the book by Louise Hay 'You Can Heal Your Life' and got a huge amount out of it but last night I was watching the her DVD 'You Can Heal Your Life' and even just that much made me feel strong and capable so this morning I did my positive affirmations (which I'd let fall by the wayside lately) and it really does make me feel so much better. It's amazing to think you can change so much just by dealing with yourself in a different way.
So I need to remember: I am in recovery, I am changing the way I deal with life and myself, I am learning to love and accept myself and I'm beginning to believe freedom is in my future!
Life is for living, lets get out there and enjoy it!
Have a good week pets!
