A little piece of simple wisdom
A good friend today made a small statemeny he didn't think much about saying, but for me, it was brilliantly apt.
I don't know about you, but I have a tendency, when I'm feeling tired or down on myself (sometimes both), to ask despondently, 'Why bother?'. This is especially the case with doing things that make me feel uncomfortable, but not because they're bad for me, just because I'm outside my comfort zone.
Well, my friend said today, 'Why not bother?', and I thought it was, while obvious, brilliant.
Think about it, especially in its potential application to challenging a behaviour. If you've decided it makes no difference, or you're not worth 'bothering', then just go for the other option instead of the one you always do.
If it 'doesn't make a difference if I sit here, or if I go for a wander in the park', then go for the wander! If it 'doesn't make a difference if I go to bed although I'm not tired, or if I read over what I learned in my last session/listen to some music/give that friend a call for ten minutes first', then do the latter!
If it might make me feel better, I choose to 'bother'...and that's the answer to the question 'why?' Enjoy bothering for yourself:)
