How can we speed up recovery?
Here are some tips for speeding up recovery. I cannot take credit for them. I have picked them up from some very wise and generous people!
- Let recovery become your hobby! Be curious about it. See it as an experiment or a journey.
- When you have negative thoughts - Answer them directly - challenge them right then and there. Rectify negative thoughts with positive affirmations. Say to yourself - I am a worthy person.
- Find something you love to broaden your horizons. It doesn't matter what it is. It could be watching films. It could be music. Anything at all.
- Be totally honest with yourself about where you are at and what you need. Make a snag list of things you need to work on. Don't panic if the list is long. The longer the better as it means you are really aware!!
- Be your own best friend!
- Put value on the small things in life. A lovely cup of tea is something I enjoy!
- Use affirmations. Keep a few in your wallet to whip out if you need them. Be creative with them and make them personal to you.
- Don't dwell on the past. The past is over. Focus on the present. Remember that a challenge or a problem could really be an opportunity. We now have the opportunity to communicate with ourselves better and enjoy life. We are not here for a long time so let's have a good time! :)
- Remember - the more you put into recovery - the more you will get out of it! Recovery has to be every day. No matter how busy we are we need to make time to focus our attention on recovery! The choice is ours.
